What we do

Estates Security
  • Patrol campus
  • Lock up buildings after hours
  • Respond to fire alarms
  • Respond to all maintenance issues out of hours
  • Respond to and manage all emergencies in the first instance
Access
  • Implement, manage and troubleshoot all electronic access control systems across campus
  • Provide access to all authorised persons out of hours who do not have relevant keys (e.g. contractors/lost keys for students)
  • Man any vulnerable area with 24hr patrols if access control is down or keys lost
Residential life
  • Support tutors/wardens when dealing with incidents in halls
  • Patrol halls and environs to provide reassurance and prevent incidents occurring
  • Support students who are vulnerable
  • Search for students who are missing
  • Provide all first aid and defibrillator response out of hours
Events
  • Provide traffic management across campus for all major events and Arts Centre events
  • Approve all events across campus that do not fall within SU/conference or official university remit
  • Manage protests/provide protection to visiting VIP's
Car parking
  • Manage all infrastructure of car parks (barriers/pay and display machines etc.)
  • Manage allocation of spaces for events (e.g. open days)
  • Patrol all car parks to prevent crime
  • Enforce parking tickets and clamping
Teaching areas
  • Patrol sensitive labs out of hours and monitor all displays and alarm units
  • Call out required staff if any critical areas begin to show unexpected readings on displays
  • Respond to panic alarms installed across estate (individuals and specific sites)
  • Escort vulnerable people late at night as required
Other duties
  • Work with SU to advise on legal and appropriate forms of protest
  • Support SU staff when there are events on in the SU
  • Manage and monitor campus CCTV
  • Manage and download all departmental CCTV after any incident
  • Crime prevention advice
  • Security surveys and risk assessments
  • Confidential reporting of bullying/harassment/antisocial/criminal behaviour
  • Investigations
  • Presentations to audiences on how to stay safe in many differing situations
  • Advice on safe travel abroad
