Car Park Regulations

The Ordinance and Regulation on Parking and Traffic are published in the University Calendar

Car Parks

Non-permit holders may use the multi-storey car parks 7, 8 and 15; and also car parks 4, 5, 8a, 9, 10, 12, 13 and 15 on payment of a charge as indicated in each car park.

Car Parks 1, 1a and 2 are restricted to staff and official visitors to Gibbet Hill.

Car parks 3, 6, 14 and 16 are reserved for permit holders only.

Pay and Display operates in the car parks 4, 8, 9 and 10. The current charges for using these Car Parks is £3.00 per day / £1.50 up to 4 hours (6:00 am - 6:00 pm Monday-Friday).

Pay on Foot operates in Car Parks 7, 8a, 13 and 15. The fees are indicated at the machine. Current charges are:

  • 30 mins - 50p (car park 5 only)
  • 2 hours - 80p (car park 8a only)
  • 2 hours - £1 (car park 4a only)
  • 4 hours - £1.50
  • Over 4 hours - £3.00

Short Stay Parking

The following car parks have a short stay facility as follows

  • 5 - Maximum Stay 1 hour - fee is £1 with overstay charge of £20.
Permits

Staff who have purchased an annual parking permit may generally park in any of the University Car Parks except car parks 4a, 5, and car Parks 1, 1a and 2 which are reserved for Gibbet Hill Staff only. Also car parks 14 and 16 which are reserved for permit holders only. Staff may pay the charge by equal monthly instalments deducted from salary. The cost of a staff permit is £225 with staff on grades 1-5 receiving a discounted rate of £175 for the 2011-12 academic year which shall be adjusted according to FTE hours (eg. a staff member working 60% FTE on grade 2 will pay 60% of £175).

Parking permits must be clearly displayed on the passenger side of the front windscreen.

Cancellation Process.

Cancellations will only be processed on the last day of the calender month, regardless of the date of cancellation, i.e. if a permit is cancelled on the 15th October the permit will be valid until 31st October and the charge for the whole of October will be applicable.

Warwickshare

Details of the scheme can be found at go.warwick.ac.uk/warwickshare. This scheme offers priority parking for members of staff who car-share.

Residential Students

Motor vehicles are not permitted in residential areas on the Campus.

Students resident on the campus are not permitted to bring motor vehicles to campus except under extreme medical or welfare grounds, which must be supported with proof of the relevant evidence.

Parking Offences

It is an offence to park anywhere on campus other than in a designated parking space. The university may take the following action against offenders: issue car parking notices, fit wheel clamps, levy fines, and tow vehicles away. The University may charge owners the cost of tracing ownership and of towing and storing vehicles.

When a notice is issued the details shall be passed to the University's chosen enforcement agency, who will assume responsibility for monies paid or not paid.

Offences include:-

  • Unauthorised Overnight Parking
  • Parking in a fire lane, or a space designated for disabled drivers
  • Parking in loading bays, or grass verges
  • Parking on double yellow lines
  • Parking in a non designated space
  • Parking in a space without displaying a valid ticket or permit

The University retains the right to clamp vehicles if necessary. Frequent offenders may also be disciplined for breach of University regulations.

Overnight Parking

No unauthorised overnight parking Monday - Thursday. Parking can be exceptionally arranged for an overnight visitor to a student but relevant vehicle information must be provided to University House Reception, where a temporary permit will be issued at a charge of £5 per night (Monday to Thursday). A car park will be allocated on application.

Overnight parking is permitted only to cars displaying a RESIDENT STAFF Permit.

University House Car Park 17

This car park is restricted to Official Visitors to University House. Staff and students are not permitted to park in this car park.

Scarman House and Radcliffe House

The parking spaces at Scarman House and beyond the barriers at Radcliffe House are reserved for residents of and visitors to, Radcliffe House and Scarman House.

Driving on the Campus

The laws which apply to public roads also apply to the University's various roads on campus and all road signs should be obeyed. The University may apply fines for careless driving or for driving in excess of the 20 mph speed limit.

All motor vehicles must be covered by motor insurance, have a current MOT where appropriate and display a current Vehicle Excise Licence.

Cars must only be driven on the roads and in the car parks, never on footpaths, or paved or grassed areas. Offenders will be fined and charged any costs incurred in tracing ownership of the vehicle and restitution for damage caused.

Trailers, caravans, campers and boats must not be parked on campus.

Cars should not be left on campus without permission.

Cars apparently abandoned on campus, and cars which remain clamped for more than forty-eight hours, may be removed and the owner charged any costs incurred.
