Staff Permits

There will be no increase in car parking charges for 2011-12. The price of permits, parking certificates and pay and display / pay on foot parking facilities will be maintained at the same level for the academic year 2011-12. Over the coming months, further analysis of pricing strategies and options for new payment methods will be undertaken to inform charging policy for 2012-13 onwards.

Please note that all permits and parking certificates (Staff, Student Essential Users and those issued on welfare, medical or disability grounds) must be reapplied for in 2011-12. Permits and certificates will not automatically renew. Staff permits will be available for renewal from 5 September 2011. Essential User applications will be considered during August and September, with decisions communicated to applicants by the end of September.

Staff Members on the University Salaries Payroll System

Salaried staff members are able to pay for their parking permit via monthly salary deductions. These deductions are calculated via an automated process in the University Salaries payroll system. For the 2011-12 academic year the charge of £175 is applicable to all staff members on grades 1-5. Staff members on grades 6 and above will be charged £225. This charge is calculated in line with the staff members' FTE hours, so that a staff member on grade 3 working 60% FTE will only pay 60% of £175. Charges will begin in the first month the permit is valid for.

Restrictions apply to permit holders parking in nominated short stay parking areas (4, 4a and 5). Car Parks 1, 1a and 2 are restricted to Gibbet Hill Staff and authorised visitors only.

Three types of permit are available to staff depending on their location:

'A' Permit - Permits the holder to park in any central campus car park, excluding 1, 1a, and 2, costs £225 - £175 as above.

'B' Permit - Permits the holder to park in any central or Gibbet Hill car park. Issued to Gibbet Hill staff only, costs £225 - £175 as above.

'C' Permit - Permits the holder to park in any central or conference car park. Issued to Conference Centre Staff only, costs £225 - £175 as above

  • Staff members on the University Salaries payroll system can apply for a parking permit here.

All permits will be valid until 30th September 2012 but can subsequently be cancelled. For information on on permit cancellation visit the Permit Registration and Cancellation pages.

Motorbikes/ motorcycles do not currently need a permit to enter the car parks. Dedicated motorcycle parking facilities are available on the ground floors of car parks 7 and 8 and in car park 16. Motorcycles are not permitted to drive or park on the pavement and so they may not use the cycle/ pushbike stands.

Staff Members not on the University Salaries Payroll System

Members of staff not on the University Salaries payroll system and who have no alternative to using their car, can download, print and fill in a copy of this application form which must be signed by their Head of Department. The signed application form should then be taken to Rootes Reception where payment can be made and a monthly pay and display permit will be issued which will entitle the holder to park in pay and display car parks on campus. These monthly permits will only be valid in pay and display car parks and will not be linked to a staff members University card. Each permit will only be available for the whole calendar month e.g. for any dates in January you will need to buy a permit for the entire month of January.

Alternatively the signed application form can be taken to University House Reception where payment can be made for a permit for the entire academic year. The permit price of £225 will be adjusted according to the month of purchase, with individuals charged for the remainder of the academic year. Please note: this charge is not dependent upon FTE. Once payment has been received the permit application will be processed separately and the permit will be sent via e-mail to the permit holder within 3 working days.
