Visitors and Overnight Parking

Overnight parking

Overnight parking is permitted only for cars displaying a 24/7 Parking Permit, according to the designated location.

Visitors wishing to park overnight must buy an overnight pass from either University House Reception (during office hours) or the Security Gatehouse (out of office hours). Overnight passes cost £5 per night (cash only at the Security Gatehouse) and are required for any overnight visit Monday to Thursday. A relevant car park will be assigned upon purchase of the pass.

Members of staff and researchers with a car in a University car park who need to work past midnight or are away overnight on University business, should contact the Security gatehouse. Students who need to stay past midnight to work in the Learning Grid, should move their cars to car park 17 at this time and inform the on-duty porter in University House. In such cases cars must be moved by 06:00 in the morning.  Overnight parking rules will be adjusted to accommodate extended Library opening hours in the weeks leading up to the University examination period.

Cars parked overnight in other car parks, or cars parked on campus without a valid permit, will be issued with a notice as stated on the enforcement pages and a fine of £70 incurred.

Visitors of Resident Students

Any resident student who has an authorised visitor who wishes to park their vehicle overnight can purchase an overnight visitors pass from either University House Reception (during office hours) or the Security Gatehouse (out of office hours). These passes cost £5 per night (cash only at the Security Gatehouse) and are required for any overnight visit Monday to Thursday. A relevant car park will be assigned to the visitor upon purchase of the pass.

Overnight passes are not required from Friday 6pm through Saturday and Sunday and up until Monday 6am.
