Options for French students
Graduates from the Department of French Studies enter a wide range of jobs: management training, marketing, advertising, public relations, accountancy, sales and finance. Some are employed in pan-European organisations, both in the UK and France, where their language and intercultural skills are valued. Other French graduates were working in the education field teaching French, or as language assistants teaching English in France or in other parts of the world. One graduate was working for a translation company, another as a fraud investigator.
Some graduates were working in a temporary capacity in administration and customer service to increase their level of experience or generate income in order to undertake further study. Others went directly into further academic study or were working towards professional qualifications in law, teaching, translation, speech & hearing therapy, and public policy.
As a French student your skills include:
- written and oral communication
- ability to gather, translate, analyse and interpret information
- ability to lead, and participate in discussions and groups
- organisation, time management and working to deadlines
- forming, expressing and defending ideas/opinions
- adaptability e.g. to new situations and cultures.
