Options for psychology students

Psychology graduates secure employment with diverse range of employers. The valuable transferable skills gained from their academic studies, in problem solving and working with others, giving graduates of this discipline, multiple career options. The diversity of Psychology graduate cohort is visible on reflection of their graduate destinations.

Typically graduates seeking a career in a graduate role within an applied psychology field e.g. Clinical Psychology, undertake essential non graduate roles in the form of casual work/voluntary experience alongside part time employment, to develop their future prospects for graduate employment/study, a contributory factor in the recorded levels of graduate employment (2011 – 61.5%).

Psychology graduates are employed within large business organisations (250+employees) (2011 - 33.3%) as well as securing employment with SME employers (43.3%) working across many industries.

Graduates in 2011 were working across a number of UK regions, Europe including France and Switzerland and worldwide including Hong Kong (SAR) and South Georgia and the Sandwich Islands.

Further study is very popular destination Psychology graduates (2011- 39.1%), many choosing to explore further study here at Warwick, or other institutions across the UK. Of those graduates in further study 62.9%, chose to enrol on a postgraduate taught degree programme, 18.5% choosing to study for a PG Diploma or Certificate and 3.7% pursuing a professional qualification and postgraduate research study programme, respectively.
