Options for theatre students

Undergraduates from Theatre and Performance studies enter a diverse range of career areas and have been successful in finding employment in a range of sectors including the theatre, publishing, teaching, arts administration, social community work, media and creative industries.

Of students graduating in 2011 who responded to our destinations questionnaire:

  • 18.5% went on to further study only
  • 7.4% were combining work and further study.

A significant proportion of graduates from this subject were to be found working on a full time or part time basis in the arts, entertainment and recreation and education sectors. Other areas of work entered include information and communication; human health and social work activities and professional, scientific and technical activities.

It is common for it to take time for Theatre and Performance Studies graduates to move into careers of interest at a graduate level. Experience tells us that many arts-related organisations expect employees to have acquired considerable relevant work experience before being considered for more senior roles.

Further study was a popular option with several 2011 graduates continuing their studies at Warwick. Courses include the MA in International Performance Research and PGCE in Secondary Education - Drama with English. In previous years graduates have embarked on drama training in the UK, Europe and USA.
