Age Equality

Age is one of the protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010. The Act provides protection against discrimination, harassment and victimisation on the grounds of age.

For a summary of the key legislation, see the Equality Challenge Unit guidance: Age: key legislation

With effect from 1st October 2011, the University will no longer be able to enforce a retirement age of 65 or 67 - See ECU information on removing the default retirement age. Those staff wishing to retire will need to do so by indicating this in writing, giving their normal contractual notice period.
