Christians (65.3%) LegislationReligion and Belief are protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010. Religion includes any religion. People are also protected if they do not follow a certain religion or have no religion at all. Additionally, a religion must have a clear structure and belief system. Belief means any religious or philosophical belief or a lack of such belief. To be protected, a belief must satisfy various criteria, including that it is a weighty and substantial aspect of human life and behaviour. The Chaplaincy has one of the best resourced Islamic prayer centres in any UK University and both Christian and Jewish requirements are also well provided for. The Chaplaincy prayer hall is open from 7am to 10.30pm, and the Islamic prayer hall is open 24 hours 7 days a week. Staff and students can access these buildings with their University card.
