Campus Development

The campus is currently undergoing an intensive period of change and development, in line with the goals outlined in the University Strategy. The academic year 08/09 will see many dramatic changes at various locations on campus, with the redevelopment of key existing buildings as well as construction of new buildings. Details of the projects for the academic year are posted on this page, together with progress updates from the sites.


Butterworth Hall redevelopment, artist's impressionButterworth Hall

The Butterworth Hall in the Arts Centre closed in August 2008 for a major redevelopment. This £6.9 million project will see investment in seating, acoustics, and technical equipment, as well as an extension at the front of the building which will improve backstage facilities for visiting artists, students, amateur groups and local schools. The Hall will reopen in September 2009.

Union Terrace Bar, artist's impressionStudents' Union

An ambitious project to redevelop the Students' Union started in June 2008. The project will see Union South radically redesigned to ensure it lives up to its mission of enhancing the student experience and providing an excellent entertainment and social space for the University community. It will fully open in September 2009.

Temporary events spaceTemporary Events Space (TES)

With the development of the Butterworth Hall and the Students' Union occurring during 2008/09, a temporary structure was erected on Tocil Field. This events space has now served its purpose and wil be dismantled during February, prior to the opening of the new SU venue.

CTU, artist's impressionClinical Trials Unit building

Construction has begun on the new Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) building on the Gibbet Hill campus. The CTU building will be an extension to Warwick Medical School, and will provide space for a team of academics, researchers, programmers, statisticians and administrative staff working on researching the performance of new drugs and physical therapies.

Butterworth Hall redevelopment, artist's impressionNew Nursery

Work has recently been completed on the new campus nursery at Lakeside. The new building provides improved and expanded facilities for children on campus, as well as a new social space which can be used by students and hired for events. The new building has been designed as a calm and relaxed environment, positioned next to the lake and featuring glass walls.
