NEBOSH Award in Health and Safety at Work Pilot

Congratulations to over 30 managers and supervisors from across the University who are better equipped to manage health and safety after earning the NEBOSH Award in Health and Safety at Work.

This is specially tailored version of the NEBOSH Award in Health and Safety at Work with content specific to Warwick, covering the kinds of issues and situations that arise on our campus. It also provides a foundation for those interested in taking further qualifications in health and safety, particularly the NEBOSH general certificate or diploma. Colleagues were presented with their certificates on 9th May 2017 by James Breckon, Director of Estates, and John Phillips, Director of Health and Safety.

James Breckon said:

“Guaranteeing that we take care of ourselves and each other while at work and raising the profile of health, safety and wellbeing is critical. This qualification brings greater insight, skills and knowledge, but more importantly it shows that health and safety is a priority for all.”

John Phillips added:

“This NEBOSH qualification, which is recognised both in the UK and internationally, has helped many organisations, in a variety of sectors, to improve the health and safety knowledge and skills of their staff.

Those individuals who successfully complete the qualification obtain a better understanding of the principles of health and safety as they apply to the University and to their specific role.

Most importantly, the training provided in support of the qualification highlights the fundamental elements of risk assessment, risk controls and measures required to ensure the wellbeing of ourselves and others at work.

I am truly pleased to see so many of our staff obtaining the qualification, and I am certain they will implement their new found knowledge, thus supporting the ongoing development of the safety culture here at Warwick.”

“Having worked in off-campus student accommodation for over 25 years, attending the NEBOSH course updated my knowledge of Health and Safety procedures and regulations and highlighted the importance of completing risk assessments.”
