Fire Safety

Welcome to the University Fire Safety Team

The effects of fire can be devastating, not only in terms of lives lost and injuries, but also in terms of damage to equipment, property, the environment, business interests and reputation. Good management of fire safety is essential to ensure that fires are unlikely to occur; that if they do occur they are likely to be controlled or contained quickly, effectively and safely; or that, if a fire does occur and grow, everyone is able to escape to a place of total safety easily and quickly.

Everyone in the University has a responsibility when it comes to fire safety. We must all take reasonable care to ensure our actions do not compromise our own safety or prejudice the safety of others from the effects of fire.

To support the University community, we have provided a number of Fire Safety Work InstructionsLink opens in a new window to support your activities.

Fire Safety TrainingLink opens in a new window is available and must be completed by all new staff and students. It is a requirement to refresh this training every three years.

The University has a Fire Safety Working GroupLink opens in a new window and Fire Management Strategic GroupLink opens in a new window which govern all aspects of Fire Safety Management.

The University is also implementing the BS 9997 Fire Risk Management SystemLink opens in a new window (under review).

Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP)

A Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP)Link opens in a new window is a personal plan for staff and students who require assistance or special arrangements in order to get to safety during an evacuation. The University of Warwick actively encourages all staff and students who cannot evacuate a building on their own to complete the initial online assessment.
