Dignity at Work and Study
The University launched a new Dignity at Work and Study Policy
for staff and students in June 2009, as it is keen to develop an approach to tackling harassment and bullying by emphasising positive behaviour and the responsibilities that we all have to challenge inappropriate behaviour when we see it. All members of the University Community have a responsibility to:
- behave in a way that respects the rights and dignity of others
- treat others fairly
- use each social interaction to display courtesy and good manners
- value differences in others and the contribution they make
- work and study within the University on a co-operative basis
- demonstrate a commitment to upholding the University's policies on equality and diversity.
The University regards all forms of harassment, including bullying, as unacceptable.
For Students
The University's Dignity at Work and Study policy (see the link above) includes information on the rights and responsibilities of all members of the University community. It also sets out the process to follow if you feel that you are being subjected to harassment or bullying, including how to make a formal complaint.
For Staff
A hard copy and summary leaflet are available from Human Resources. Sources of information and support are shown on the right hand side of this page. This includes the details of Dignity Contacts who act as a confidential listening service for staff. Members of staff can choose any Contact from the list and can approach him/her directly. Contacts are not departmental representatives and were selected to cover a range of staff categories and job roles. Alternatively, staff can contact Sandra Beaufoy on extension 74479 to discuss the selection of an appropriate contact. If you are a Dignity Contact you can access the Contacts Page for support and access to forms.
