Important message from West Midlands Police for international students
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the University of Warwick student who sadly died on Tuesday 21 January following a road traffic collision near to Cannon Park, Canley.
Coventry Police worked alongside the University and Chinese Embassy to locate and inform relatives. We’re appealing for any witnesses who haven’t yet spoken to police officers to please come forward so we can piece together the circumstances of this tragic incident.
On Thursday 23 January at around 5:30pm a parent of a student was struck by a car on Gibbet Hill Road when he was on foot and crossing the road. He was taken to hospital with head injuries which are thankfully not life threatening.
Our advice to international students:
We want you to keep safe during your stay in Coventry and we’re here to help. Please take a few minutes to read our safety tips if you’re new to the UK.
· When crossing the road, remember that vehicles drive on the left in the UK so they will be coming towards you from the right.
· Please always remove headphones when you’re crossing the road and give traffic your full attention. Do not use your mobile phone when you’re crossing either.
· Always use a designated crossing where one is available. At a crossing with traffic lights press the button, wait for the traffic to stop and the signal to appear (a green man) before crossing.
