CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies)

Section 1: Purpose and Contents of this page:

This page has been created to give guidance for Warwick offer holders and current Warwick students regarding their Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).

Please ensure you have carefully read the guidance provided for your situation BEFORE you contact Student Immigration.

Section 2: What is a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS):

A Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies number, otherwise known as a CAS, is an electronic record that the the UKVI requires the University to produce for each applicant we are sponsoring under the Student Route of the Immigration Rules.

You cannot make a Student Visa applciation without a valid, unused CAS.

The CAS confirms the following details:

your CAS number

the start and end date of your course

our Sponsor Licence Number

our Sponsor Licence Address (our registered address)

the address of your primary site of study

The qualifications we have used to assess your eligibility for a place on your course

confirmation that your course represents academic progress if you have already studied in the UK

confirmation of your English language ability

the fees for your course

The fees you have already paid

your name as it appears on your passport

your passport number

your scholarship information (if applicable)

Once assigned with the UKVI, a student will be emailed their CAS number, along with the details used to obtain the CAS.

Once you have your CAS, assuming you meet the other requirements of the Student Route, you can submit your applciation.

Section 3: Who needs a CAS and when is it issued:

All students at Warwick MUST have the right to study already for their course at WarwickLink opens in a new window.

The University can sponsor any student that does not already have the right to study for their courseLink opens in a new window, if their course is a full time, residential course, and the total length of that course is more than 6 months.

If an eligible student requires sponsorship, the University will issue a CAS.

The University will issue a CAS in the following circumstances:

For any student who has an unconditional offer for a residential course of study that is more than 6 months longLink opens in a new window, but does not already have the right to study for that course.

For any student who has started their course overseas at a partner university, and now requires a UK student visa to continue their studies at Warwick.

Section 4: Who will issue your CAS:

If you are a new Student who has an unconditional offer but has not yet enrolled on your course at Warwick:
OR
You are restarting your course or restarting on another course at Warwick:

Between 3 to 4 months before your course start date, your admissions team will send you the "check your details" email in preparation for your CAS.

This email will confirm the details the university has for you, which we will use to create your CAS.

Please read this email carefully and check for any errors.

Follow the instructions in the email on how to confirm the details, or, if there are error(s), how to advise your admissions team of the error(s).

The email will also advise you how to confirm that you require a CAS.

Your admissions team cannot assign a CAS until you have confirmed the details are correct.

Once you have responded to the 'check your details' email, your CAS request will be processed and you would normally receive your CAS within 10 working days.

Please note:

If you are starting a new course and have an Admissions record (i.e., you received an offer from the Admissions team), your CAS will be issued by the Admissions team. Any queries regarding the issue of your CAS should be made to the relevant admissions teams.

If you are a current student who needs to make a student visa application to retain or gain the right to study for your course at Warwick due to:
  1. Return from Temporary Withdrawal

  2. Return from Resit Without Residence

  3. Change of Course

  4. Switching to the Student Route from another Immigration Route

  5. Started at a partner institution and now need a Student Visa for your period of study at Warwick

Your CAS will be assigned by the Student Immigration Team, on receipt of a valid CAS Request submission.

A CAS request received by Student Immigration will usually be processed within 5 working days of the request submission.

Please note:

Student Immigration occasionally requires further information from a Student, their Department, Student Finance or Student Records, in order to process the CAS request.

In these situations, the request can take an additional 5-10 working days to process.

To avoid such delays, all students who require a CAS should contact their Department / Student Records / Student Finance and make sure that their Student Records are up to date BEFORE they submit their CAS Request to Student Immigration.

Section 5: If you have had a visa refusal:

If you have received a refusal for a Warwick sponsored student visa application:

Please read the guidance on the following link:

Warwick | Student Immigration | Student Visa | Student Visa Rejections and RefusalsLink opens in a new window

You must notify your department and notify Student Immigration of your refusal.

To notify Student Immigration, please click on the following link, complete the online form, attach your UKVI Refusal Notice, and submit:

Warwick | Student Immigration | Student Visa | Student Visa Rejections and Refusals | Student Visa refusal notification and new CAS request formLink opens in a new window

Once student immigration have received your refusal notification submission, an Adviser will check your UKVI Refusal notice to see the reason for refusal.

They will respond via email to advise you if the refusal will allow you to make a new application, and provide you with advice on how to make a new successful application.

If your refusal allows for a new application, and, if you have enough time to make a new application - see Section 6 below, student immigration will notify your admissions team to issue a new CAS, or, if the CAS was issued for a continuing student, student immigration will issue your new CAS.

Student immigration CANNOT issue a CAS where the student will not have a chance of making a successful application AND travel to the UK in time for their CAS latest start date - see Section 7 below.

Section 6: What is the deadline for the university to issue a CAS:

The deadline for the university to issue a CAS is dependant on if you are making your application within the UK or from outside of the UK.

If you are applying from outside of the UK:

The university will not issue a CAS if you do not have enough time to make a successful application AND travel to the UK by your CAS Latest Start Date.

To determine this, we start with your CAS Latest Start Date, and count backwards, based on your application type:

If you are making a standard visa application: 4 weeks + 2 days traveling.

If you are making a priority visa application: 2 weeks + 2 days traveling.

If you are making a super priority visa application: 5 working days + 2 days traveling.

* See a list of visa application centres managed by VFS Global and a list of visa application centres managed by TSL which offers Priority Service or Super Priority Service.

If you are applying from within the UK:

Most student's should have already requested their CASs well in advance of the Course Start Date.

If you have requested a CAS after your course start date, but before your online enrolment deadline, your admissions team will contact student immigration to advise of this.

Student immigration will then request that the student book a 15 minute Help Desk appointment with an adviser.

In this request, the adviser will check your evidence to confirm that you are able to make a successful application submission.

if the adviser is satisfied, they will instruct your admissions team to issue a CAS.

Section 7: What does the 'latest start date' on my CAS mean:

The 'Latest Start Date' on a CAS indicates the last day you need to physically arrive in the UK and upload a scanned copy of evidence of travel (for example, a UK immigration entry stamp, if you applied for your visa overseas).

This means you must have completed:

AND

  • Uploaded evidence of your immigration documents to meet the Right to Study Check requirement (including proof of entry to the UK)

AND

  • Physically arrived in the UK by your CAS Latest Start Date.

Please note:

If you fail to provide all the required immigration documents to be fully enrolled, including if you fail to arrive in the UK by this 'latest start date', you will be temporarily withdrawn from the course under University regulation 36.4 and the University will need to stop sponsoring your visa.

Please refer to the 'Temporary withdrawal' section of our website for further information.
