Warwick Accommodation manages all campus and University-leased properties. They can help you find somewhere to live. The information below provides an overview of how to book accommodation which we hope you will find a helpful introduction.
Choosing your accommodation on campusWarwick Accommodation guarantees a room on campus to all first-year international students providing you apply before 31 July 2009 (with £250 deposit for postgraduates). When applying for accommodation, you should first study all the information on the Warwick Accommodation Receiving your room allocationOnce you have applied online for accommodation you should get confirmation by email that your application has been received. You will be sent an accommodation offer as soon as possible following confirmation that you have met your entry requirements. This will usually be in mid-September. Your offer of accommodation will be based on your preferences and every effort will be made to offer you your first choice. Due to the high demand for some accommodation, especially en suite, you may be offered your second or third choice. In some cases, you may be offered accommodation for which you have not stated a preference. Also, as there is a very limited amount of single sex accommodation it is not possible to meet every request for a room in a single sex area. Please return your confirmation of acceptance of the accommodation offer as soon as possible after receiving it. Off-campus accommodationWarwick Accommodation has some leased houses in Coventry, Leamington Spa and Kenilworth. Small properties are typically let to students on a 43-week contract from September to June. There are also large properties in which individual rooms are let to students. Warwick Accommodation can give you more details. As University managed properties off campus are limited, you may need to rent privately through an agency or an independent landlord. If you choose to live in private accommodation, you are strongly advised to book temporary accommodation and arrive well before the start of term to allow yourself time to find something appropriate. You should never sign a contract for a property you have not seen. The local Police has written a guide specifically for international students who want to find private accommodation. We advise you to book yourself into short-term accommodation (Bed and Breakfast) whilst you find somewhere to live long-term. The Students Union also provides advice on finding off-campus accommodation. You will be able to get more information on local properties from Warwick Accommodation. For your own protection, as well as for administrative reasons (e.g. opening a bank account), you must ensure that you receive a tenancy agreement for your private property. Family accommodationThere are only a limited number of on-campus properties suitable for couples or families. Leases for family accommodation on campus often start from 1 September. To apply for these please complete the ‘Family/couple accommodation’ section on the application form and Warwick Accommodation will contact you. There is no guarantee of availability, so you may also wish to look for a house in the local area. Warwick Accommodation can help you to find a suitable house but it is essential that you contact them with your requirements as soon as possible. You may also wish to see the 'Bringing your family to the UK' section of our website. Socrates-Erasmus and Visiting/Exchange students will be informed of their accommodation arrangements separately. If you would prefer not to live on campus, Warwick Accommodation will assist you in finding suitable off-campus accommodation. |
