Service description
This is a service for students and staff who are using privately owned computers.
What do I get?
- Help getting your computer connected to the network and the Internet
- Installing Ethernet cards
- Configuring operating system settings
- Help recovering your computer following a virus attack
- Help installing antivirus software
- Help installing licensed software
- Advice on good PC practice
- Help installing printers and other peripheral devices
- Help reinstalling your operating system from system disks (if you have them)
- Individual assistance, in conjunction with the Senior Tutor's Office, for students with special needs

Availability
Appointments must be made via the Student Computing HelpDesk during support hours.
Appointments at the Service Point are available at the following times:
Term Time
- First appointment 09:00 Monday to Friday
- Last appointment 19:00 Monday to Friday
Out of Term
- First appointment 09:00 Monday to Friday
- Last appointment 16:00 Monday to Friday
During first 2 weeks of first term
- First appointment 09:00 Monday to Friday
- Last appointment 19:00 Monday to Friday
Charges
- Free to all campus residents
- Available to others for purchase from the Service Point for £29.38 inc VAT per year
How do I buy the service if I'm not entitled to it already?
You can buy this service by dropping into the Service Point. If you require an engineer to look at your computer you will need to arrange an appointment before going down to the Service Point by calling the Student Computing Help Desk on 024 765 75000.
NB: Only credit or debit card payments are accepted
