    Anti-virus software

IT Services provides Kaspersky Anti-Virus for University-owned machines and recommends the use of AVG Free Edition for personally-owned machines. Both products can be downloaded from this web page.

Important Note when installing Anti-Virus Software

Before installing Kaspersky or AVG you must uninstall any other anti-virus software that is on your machine. We also strongly advise uninstalling any anti-spyware or firewall software as these may cause conflicts.

Please note that IT Services cannot predict possible conflicts in environments on personally-owned and non-ITS-managed desktops. IT Services therefore is not responsible for any loss of data or damage that may occur as a result of a conflict caused by the use of this software. You are strongly advised to read the following articles regarding possible compatibility issues:

Kaspersky Anti Virus – For use on University-owned machines

Kaspersky Anti Virus is an anti-virus suite for Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Vista, OS/2, Novell NetWare and several varieties of Unix.

Updates to detect new viruses are available over the internet.

Kaspersky can be downloaded from this web page for use on non-ITS managed University machines. If you use an ITS-managed machine, you do not need to download anything; Kaspersky is already installed in the image.

A licence key file has to be added to the suite to activate it. This is available via the link on the right.

Before downloading, please ensure you first read the following:
