How do I add bold or italic text to my entry?

You must be in the process of creating or editing an entry to add bold or italic text. You must sign in to your blog before creating or editing an entry.

Note: If you wish to format the text of an entry that you are in the process of creating, you should remember to give it a title and select the appropriate privacy settings before you publish it.

  1. Write the text for your entry in the large text box under 'Text of entry'.
  2. Decide which sections or words of text you wish to format in bold. Highlight the section of text and then click on the 'Bold button*bold*' button to the right of the text box. You should now see an asterisk (*) either side of the text you selected.
  3. Decide which sections or words of text you wish to format in italics. Highlight the section of text and then click on the 'Italic button _italic_' button to the right of the text box. You should now see an underscore (_) either side of the text you selected.
  4. When you have finished formatting the text of your entry, click on the 'Publish now' button: Publish now button

You should now see that the asterisks and underscores have disappeared from the published version, and that the text you selected is formatted in bold or italics.

If you don't like using the mouse to click buttons while you're typing, you can just type the asterisks or underscores yourself, *like* _this_.

Example: Say your entry was about an upcoming event you could make the important details, such as the venue, entry price and times, stand out by putting them in bold.
