SharePoint
Service description
Microsoft SharePoint 2010 provides easier collaborative working, as you can easily share documents and other information with colleagues around the world. SharePoint is available, at no charge, for any academic or admin-related staff member of the university.
IT Services has opened up an installation of SharePoint 2010, to support collaboration and document sharing.
The SharePoint service can be accessed by any member of the University using your existing IT Services login details. Once you have created a site you can choose to add external users as required.
Requesting a SharePoint site
If it is a site for an academic department, administrative service or student society, then you can request a site by emailing webteam@warwick.ac.uk. Students under the supervision of an academic member of staff can also access SharePoint sites for specialist projects.
If you have any questions about the SharePoint service, please check the FAQs or contact webteam@warwick.ac.uk
The services within SharePoint include:
- A SharePoint space for members of staff.
- A way to grant external users access to your site.
- Version control of documents, so changes can easily be tracked and reviewed.
- Simple workflow functionality.
- Check In/Check Out functionality, so you can see who is working on a document.
- Integration with common technologies such as Microsoft Office and Microsoft Exchange/Outlook.
- An initial 2GB quota for storage, although this can be extended on request.
Services excluded from the SharePoint service:
At the current time IT Services is unable to provide support for:
- SharePoint Designer
- Other 3rd party add on tools for SharePoint
Service Levels
The SharePoint service is normally available 24/7, notwithstanding periods of non-availability required for planned maintenance or resulting from service failures or emergency updates. Being newly introduced this should be considered a 'pilot' service rather than a fully functional and resourced service. We welcome feedback from customers on how they are using and finding SharePoint at Warwick.
