How to make good quality web sites

[c]
In this guide to creating good quality web sites, we'll:
  • consider how people behave when they browse the web and how we can use this information to our advantage when desiging web sites and homepages
  • look at how you can identify the audience(s) for your web site and target the information towards them
  • discuss the correct writing style for the web and how you can write good content
  • think about how to guide people around your site via good structure and navigation
  • give you some steps to designing a great homepage

Your aim is to get visitors to your web site and ensure that visitors will stay on your site and return frequently. This has been called the "stickiness" of a site and is, basically, the interest factor. So, how do you ensure repeat visitors?  In a survey by Forrester Research the following factors were sited as being the most important in site stickiness: high quality content (75%), ease of use (66%), speed of download (58%), update frequency (54%), cutting edge technology (12%), purchasing capabilities (11%), customizable content (10%), chat and bulletin board systems (10%), other (6%).

Using SiteBuilder to construct your site means that your site will be easy to use and fast to download.  The creation of high quality content and the frequency with which it is updated, however, is up to you!  The advice in this section will help you to create a good quality web site.

Reminder - update your web site regularly!
