The workshop will have a practical focus and will consider;
- the benefits of student interaction in class
- different types of interaction
- when interaction serves a useful purpose and when it doesn't!
- the challenges of incorporating interaction from a lecturer's perspective and how these can be evaluated
Who is it for?
Academic staff with responsibility for lecturing in both small and large class contexts, in a variety of types of space (seminar room, class room, lecture theatre...).
Session Objectives
By the end of the workshop you will have gained an understanding of the role and purpose of student interaction in the classroom.
You will be able to:
- give reasons for why interaction in the classroom is often considered an important feature of teaching and learning
- make informed decisions about whether and when interaction is appropriate, and what type is the most advantageous for your purpose
- evaluate and potentially enhance your current practice
