How to Sell Yourself and Your Research - (School of Engineering Research Staff)

Course Overview Dates, venues and booking

Most researchers at some time will have the need to persuade or encourage other people into their way of thinking. It’s an essential skill in advancing your career. Selling yourself by using your skills of influence requires an understanding of your self worth, what the other side wants and how best to get your message across whether with groups or individuals.

Who is it for:
Research Staff in the School of Engineering only.

This session will explore the situations in which you want to call upon your persuasive and selling skills, identify the key techniques available and show you how to build confidence for the future.

The session will involve individual and group exercises with plenty of room for feedback and discussion.

By the end of the session you will have learnt how to:

  • Develop assertiveness skills and an appreciate the role of self confidence in presenting yourself
  • Build rapport in influencing situations
  • Take more opportunities and discover different channels available to you in getting your message across
