    User guidance

The Learning Grid is a resource for users to connect, explore, learn and innovate. Please maintain respect for all the environment, equipment and other users at all times.

    Accessing The Learning Grid

Entrance and exit is by University card only. For those users with mobility problems, there is an entrance point upstairs that can be reached via the central lift in University House. Students without current and active cards will be denied access. Faulty cards should be presented to the ID card Office located behind the University House reception desk between the hours of 10:00 am and 15:00 pm. The Learning Grid is open 24 hours a day every day except Christmas Day. It is sometimes neccesary to close certain areas off to students for essential maintenance, these times are kept to the bare minimum to avoid any disappointment.

    Help and Support

Help is available from the Student Learning Advisors during term time from 8:00 am - 22:00 pm Monday to Friday and from 11:00 am to 21:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. A reduced staffing service operates over all vacation periods, usually 12:00 to 18:00.

    Compliments and complaints

We aim to provide the best possible service to our users. Your views are important to us and we welcome suggestions for improving our service. You may speak directly to a member of Staff or email us your comments using the Compliments and complaints form.

    Ambience

The Learning Grid actively encourages group work in the form of discussion, problem solving, brainstorming and presentation activities.

Talking is permitted. We are also mobile phone tolerant. We do not have a silent study area or a silent study policy.

The consumption of hot and cold drinks and cold food is permitted. Hot food items such as pizzas, burgers, indeed any hot take away food is not permitted. Hot food packaging in form of boxes or containers should not be taken into The Learning Grid regardless of whether the contents are cold. The atrium within University House provides seating for users of The Learning Grid to eat hot food.

We urge all our users to respect the area and others around them and dispose of their food waste in a responsible manner.

Users are not permitted to stream live sports or music events through technologies within The Learning Grid.

Users are not permitted to link computer game consoles through technologies within The Learning Grid.

Users are not permitted to sleep in The Learning Grid at any point.

Users are not permitted to bring in or utilise their own kettles or microwaves within The Learning Grid.

Users who leave their work and or belongings in group areas or on computers unattended will be allowed 30 minutes maximum to return. Failure to do so will see their belongings removed, computers reset and Learning Grid books returned to the shelving trolleys.

    Reference Books

All book stock at The Learning Grid is for reference only and books can not be removed. Please help us keep the book stock as available as possible by returning books to the shelving trolleys whenever possible.

    Technologies

All the equipment featured in The Learning Grid is accessed by simply dropping in and using them. Help and advice using the equipment can be sought at any time from The Learning Grid Staff. Individuals and groups wishing to watch DVDs and Videos or use the Smartboards or Panaboards will be given priority over users using the just the computers attached to the equipment. Scanners should be made available to students wishing to use them as requested. Students occupying equipment but not using it will be asked to relocate if and when the need arises.

    Parking

Students are not permitted to park in car park 16 to the rear of University House.

Students are not permitted to park at the front of University House.

    Library Services

The Learning Grid is a fundamental part of Library Service provision and is therefore subject to the same rules and regulations that bind the 2 areas. Details can be viewed here http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/library/basics/rules/
