Social Workers Speak Out

Cartoon of 'The Lady Almoner'

In 1980-1981 Alan Cohen conducted 26 interviews with some of the pioneers and formative players in the development of social work teaching and practice, including Eileen Younghusband, Claire Winnicott and Rose Mary Braithwaite, with the intention of using selected extracts as illustrative material for a book. The original cassette interviews were originally gifted to the WISEArchive (via Pauline Weinstein) in Norfolk in 2008 and transferred in 2013 to join the papers of Alan Cohen deposited at the Modern Records Centre in 2012. Edited and annotated transcripts of these tapes were published under the title The Cohen Interviews: conversations with 26 social work pioneers.
