Disarming and peaceful archives revealed
Largest among these is that of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), which currently ranges in date from 1958, when the organisation was founded, to 1996. It includes national council, executive and officers' meeting minutes and papers, material on specific campaigns and demonstrations, periodical and other publications, and records of the London Nuclear War Tribunal, which examined the legality of nuclear strategy in the mid-1980s. The labour movement’s perspective is documented in the archive of Trade Union CND, whilst the archive of the International Confederation for Disarmament and Peace (ICDP) ranges globally over the issues of peaceful conflict resolution, human rights, civil liberties and anti-colonialism. This archive is a particularly rich source of material on the troubled history of Vietnam (largely from the perspective of those opposed to American involvement) and other parts of the Far East in the 1960s and 1970s. As well as the redoubtable Peggy Duff, who was successively general secretary of CND and ICDP, it features such luminaries as Professor Noam Chomsky. Our annual report for 2010/11 is now availableThe report documents a notable year in the Centre's history, during which our premises were transformed and we embarked on a major digitisation project.
