Floor 5 Refurbishment Project
Welcome to the refurbished Floor 5
The refurbished Floor 5 is now open and already proving popular. This floor focuses on encouraging individual quiet learning, surrounded by the Library's collections in a modern and pleasant environment. There are new single seat desks sited by the windows to maximise use of natural light and a number of quiet study 'islands' amnogst the book stacks.
Floor 5 CLOSED: Access to stock changes
Friday 1 October 2010 No access to books H-JE, Social Science Journals and Social Science Reference [ref] H-JE, [ref] ZH-ZJE
We apologise for the inconvenience but due to the building works there is no access to Floor 5 for Library users.
Due to the increase in demand for Floor 5 stock we have had to change the Fetch and Carry service
- Requests for Floor 5 books will be restricted to 3 per user per day up to their normal request a hold limit (postgraduates 10, undergraduates 10)
- You will receive an email when your requests are available for collection from the Self-collection holds shelf in Short Loan on Floor 1 ·
- Requested books that can be found will be available 14:00 the following day e.g. books requested Saturday will be available for collection after 14:00 on Sunday
Please fill in a request form detailing the classmark, title, author ISBN of the books you wish to read and place it in the Fetching Request Tray at the Helpdesk.
We are working to open Floor 5 to users as soon as it is safe to do so.
Floor 5 Closed: Fetch and Carry Service
We apologise for the inconvenience but due to building works there is no access to Floor 5 for Library users. We aim to operate a Fetch and Carry Service 8 times throughout the day but this will depend on the building works being carried out at the time and access being granted to staff.Please fill in a request form detailing the classmark, title, author ISBN of the books you wish to read and place it in the Fetching Request Tray at the Helpdesk. Pick up times for requested books will be:

Books requested after 22:30 will be available for collection 9:30 the following day.Note: Book stock HX-JE; Reference Books H-JE and ZH-ZJE are temporarily located on Floor 2 and Social Science Journals are available to users on Floor 2 extension Silent Study Room on your left after the bridge link.

Tuesday 6 July: Contractors start work
The contractors begin work today on the Floor 5 Refurbishment. A contractor's compound will be built on the North side of the building (opposite Humanities). This means that there will be no 'through' access between the main Library building and the extension building.
Monday 5 July: No access to the rear of the Library building
Delivery of Perimeter safety rails This delivery will need to be hoisted up onto the roof space (main and ext. buildings). To enable this work to take place safely, we require that no one walks through this area or enters by the rear of the Library and Library extension after 8.45am until late into the afternoon. Staff access: after 8.45am will have to be via the front Library entrance/ front MRC entrance
