    • Does submission in WRAP fulfil the mandate of my funder?
    University of Warwick

Does submission in WRAP fulfil the mandate of my funder?

In recent years the UK funding bodies and indeed public funding bodies around the world have been under pressure to ensure that the results of publicly funded research can be read and used by all members of the public, not just the ones who can afford costly subscriptions to journals. To help achieve this the funder bodies began to mandate that authors made the results of their research openly accessible in some way.

These pages will provide a very rough guide to what the major UK funders demand of their authors, exactly what you will have to do to fulfil your funders mandate will depend on the funder. The following will give you a rough idea of what funders may require you to do BUT we would always advise you to check the agreement you signed to be sure, as the requirements of funders can change over time. If the funder also has a policy for the treatment of research data the policy is also linked to below.

If your funder is not on this list then further information on a larger list of funders can be found at the SHERPA Juliet site, the information below is based on the SHERPA Juliet information and the advice of the funders from their websites.

One area that all the below funders, in particular the Research Councils, are concerned with is the acknowledgement of funding in journal articles, guidance on this is available from the Research Information Network.
