    Searching the WRAP repository

The WRAP repository is at: http://wrap.warwick.ac.uk. Within WRAP you can browse for content by department, by year of publication and by subject area.

    Finding content

The WRAP home page links to an Advanced Search form but if you don't want to do a sophisticated search, you can link from that form to the simple search page. Most visitors will find WRAP content after having performed a search elsewhere, such as on the University of Warwick search engine, or through large, external search engines like Google and Google Scholar. Another option again is to use the standard university search box in the top right hand corner of the page in the blue background, in WRAP this is configured to search WRAP content only.

For those who know exactly what content they're looking for in WRAP itself, the WRAP Advanced Search form is ideal. Each of the search form fields has a clickable little help symbol which looks like: WRAP help icon with further information about how to use that field. The end of the form has two drop down lists, so that you can choose that all your search criteria must be matched by results (an AND search) or that any of the criteria must be matched (an OR search) and so that you can choose how you would like your results to be ordered.

    External databases of repository content

Use the tools below to search large collections of repository content harvested from WRAP and other repositories like it.

    • Bielefeld Academic Search Engine (BASE)
    • Intute Repository Search
    • OAIster
    • OpenDOAR repository search
    • DART-Europe ETheses Portal (DEEP) takes a feed from WRAP and contains all the Warwick PhD theses that we have available in full text.

Saving searches and setting up alerts

If you know that you would like to regularly check a particular search, you can use your account in WRAP and save that search. The login for WRAP is the same web sign on you would use to login to the University website or to access your email through the webmail service.

Once you are logged in, whenever you do a search in WRAP you will now see a link "Save search" at the top and bottom of your results set. Click on this link to save the search and see the option to set up an e-mail alert for new items which match your search, as they are added to WRAP. You will have various frequency options and also you can choose whether to make your saved search public or not.

A public search is one that you can share a link to, allowing others to instantly access your search results. An example is this search for all items linked to the Warwick Medical School.

Every search that you do on WRAP can be turned into an RSS/Atom feed, so that you can watch items that are added to WRAP which match your search criteria through your RSS feed readers, or indeed incorporate the feed into your own web page. Look out for the clickable orange icons at the top right of your results set. Guides to using RSS feeds and feed readers can be found on the Research Exchange site. Instructions are available on the IT Services website, on how to add an RSS feed into a University of Warwick Sitebuilder web page.

    Exporting search results

Every search results set on WRAP can also be exported in a variety of formats, including those compatible with EndNote and Reference Manager. Simply select your preferred format from the drop down list and save the file. The Library website has instructions on using EndNote Web.
