Print Collections
The Library receives a number of statistical series, primarily from the United Kingdom, European countries and the United States. The Library's Statistics Collection concentrates on economic data (trade, commodity and financial), and some social data. We also collect statistical publications of the major international financial organisations, including the IMF, ILO, OECD and the UN.
In addition to official statistics published by government departments and national statistical offices, the collection also includes a variety of non-official statistics produced by bodies such as trade associations, banks and local authorities.
The Statistics Collection is shelved on Floor 4 of the Library, organised first by geographical region and then, within each area, by the statistical subject matter. Within each subject category, material is shelved alphabetically by title. The majority of the material is listed on the Library Catalogue
and can be located in the sequence using the classmark stated. Guides on finding statistics are available on Floor 4.
Some older material and historical series, kept in the Library Store, do not appear on the Library Catalogue. If you are interested in older data, please ask staff at the Floor 4 Enquiry Desk. Material kept in Store may be obtained by completing a Store Request Form or requested in person in the Short Loan Collection on Floor 2 of the Library.
Much statistical material is available online or on CD-ROMs. These are listed on the Key Electronic Resources for Statistics and Useful Websites for Statistics pages. Some CD-ROMs are networked on campus (e.g. PACSTAT - Annnual Business Inquiry data 1986-2000; Regional Trends; Social Trends; the International Statistical Yearbook; World Development Indicators). Others are available on standalone PCs; (e.g. Labour Force Statistics Database; World Advertising Trends). The Library Catalogue
will provide details and location.
