This session will provide an overview of how impact is defined and how to apply it in your research. Often this is about identifying and learning to communicate impacts a project already demonstrates. The session will include a discussion forum with Impact Officers, to learn how impact metrics are developing. For Early Career Researchers, the session will also discuss how impact affects your career development.

Who should attend?

Research staff aiming to increase impact in their research. In particular, the session will benefit Early Career Researchers (ECRs) looking to expand their understanding of impact and its effects on their career progression.

We do not accept applications from postgraduates or research students. Students should refer to the Student Career and Skills website for details of workshops designed specifically to meet their needs.

Session objectives:

• To explore ways of defining impact goals and establishing suitable evaluative measures
• To create a discussion forum with Impact Officers
• To equip Early Career Researchers with better understanding of how to engage productively with impact to benefit their career development
• To explore effective ways of communicating the value of research

Impact Officers will be giving a talk and answering questions about research impact and how the Impact Officers can support you and your research impact.
