Research Development |
|
The Research Development Team works with staff and external bodies in putting together new research projects and assist with external and internal collaborations. In addition, they are responsible for:

Research Governance Division |
|
The Research Governance Division provides administrative and management services for proposals and contracts for externally funded research and related activities, and handles approximately 1000 applications with a total value of c.£146 million each year. A wide range of contract types are handled, mainly research funding agreements, multi-party collaboration agreements and studentships. The team also support the work of Academic Trading within the Finance Department, on consultancy and services contracts, and also negotiate an increasing number of agreements not necessarily tied to the provision of funding e.g. for materials transfer, confidentiality or non-disclosure. In addition, the team handle applications to a very broad range of grant awarding bodies, including all the UK Research Councils, a large number of charities and trusts in the UK and overseas, and the European Commission. Grant applications are also very varied, including project grants, grants for capital projects, conferences and travel, research programmes, post doctoral and senior fellowships, research centres and research training sites. |
Research Operations Division |

The Research Operations Division is responsible for the co-ordination of effective operations in research administration and in supporting the development of new processes as required. The team monitors and develops the key IT systems within the department and provides management information on research activity to academic departments at regular intervals and on an ad hoc basis. |
Research Finance Division |
|
Post-award financial management and administration of research grants and contracts accepted by the University. |
Business Development |
|
The KTP office. KTP is a Government sponsored initiative established in 1975 to encourage partnerships between universities and UK Industry and so facilitate technology transfer. |
Science City |
|
Collaborative research between Birmingham and Warwick Universities in the research areas of: advanced materials, energy futures and translational medicine. |
