Brenda is Aide to Dr Peter Hedges, Director of a busy Research Support Services and is Departmental Operations Manager for the day to day busy office environment. Taking the lead on engagement with funding bodies, including events managment of high profile visits, supporting 80 plus departmental staff, ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the Department in support of the Director and Senior Executive Team, and supervising the cross-divisional administrative support team. A former Ward Manager and Senior Nurse within the NHS ("NHS Direct" in the London area and prior to that Sister in charge of a Coronary Care Unit in her homeland of Northern Ireland), Brenda brings a wide range of expertise, management and administrative skills and abilities to the post. This includes setting service standards for clerical support/administration within RSS and currently as Secretary to Humanities and Social Sciences Research Ethics Committee. In 2006 she won a competitive scholarship to undertake research at Warwick Medical School, exploring models of palliative care and service delivery of day care within the "Arden Cancer Network". |
