Senior Tutor's Office

Who is the Senior Tutor?

Mr Stephen Lamb is the Senior Tutor at the University of Warwick.

How Can He Help?

The Senior Tutor, who is also an active member of an academic department, promotes the academic welfare of students, individually and collectively, and provides a sympathetic person to whom students can turn to in confidence for support regarding difficulties with their studies.

The Senior Tutor also provides help and advice to academic members of staff who are Personal Tutors and is responsible for the University's personal tutor system (web page accessible to Warwick staff and students only).

All matters are dealt with in strict confidence. Nothing is passed on without your agreement. If action with another person is required then it will be taken in a discreet manner in a way that does not cause further difficulties for the student.

What Sort of Problem can I take to the Senior Tutor?

The list below is indicative, not exhaustive:

  • Academic problems such as change of course, temporary withdrawal, appeals against academic decisions (required to withdraw, failure to be awarded degree, etc), problems with teaching or modules, study skills, marking
  • Difficulties in getting on with personal tutor or course tutors
  • Termination of registration proceedings
  • Complaints against the University or its academic staff

If in doubt about whether it is appropriate to see the Senior Tutor, make an appointment anyway and if necessary he will refer you to the correct person. Several hundred students meet the Senior Tutor each year.

If you are considering an appeal against the decision of an examinations board, please consult the appropriate University regulations on appeals before consulting the Senior Tutor. Please refer to the Academic Office Examinations Website for further information. Checking the permissible grounds for appeal, and reflecting on how your cirumstances relate to them (e.g. by drafting your appeal) before consulting the Senior Tutor, will help clarify the viability of a possible appeal as well as help the Senior Tutor provide appropriate advice and support.
