University & SU Joint Statement on the HE Green Paper

The University of Warwick and Warwick SU are working closely together to form a response to the recently-published green paper on higher education. Both the University and SU believe that there is already great teaching at Warwick, which must not go unacknowledged. At the same time, we are always keen to continue improving and innovating.

Given that the proposals in the Green Paper could significantly influence the student experience, we really encourage students to take part in the consultation, which can be found here. The paper is lengthy and complex, and there is no need to answer every question, but there are some major questions in the document which have significant implications for student’s future teaching, learning, and research experience while at university

Warwick students are more than customers, and indeed are more than just part of a community. Our Charter declares Warwick’s graduate and undergraduate students to be “members of the university” As members of the university we want to ensure that you all have an opportunity to express your view on the Green Paper to ensure that now, and in the future, our Universities remain a place where students are able to discuss and challenge ideas freely, to engage critically and intellectually, and to have an experience that is life-changing as well as being part of the path to your chosen career, vocation or other future life choice.

It is vital that students are at the heart of the University and Students’ Union. To this end we want to hear the views of as many staff and students as possible to help inform our response to the green paper consultation.
