Mark Hinton is Community Engagement Development Manager for CLL, as well as for the University's central Strategy Group. He works with the third sector in the sub-region to raise awareness of opportunities for adult learners at the University of Warwick, to build long-term relationships between the University and local communities with lower HE participation rates, and to encourage and facilitate good practice in University-Community Engagement.

In June 2022, Mark was awarded the inaugural Warwick Award for Public and Community Engagement for his long-term work in and with the Canley neighbourhood. From 2018 to 2020, he developed and led Warwick's engagement with Planning for Real in Canley - in 2021 he led the first summer workshop programme and parade of the ongoing Playing Out in Canley community arts programme.

Mark is an alumnus of the Warwick International Higher Education Academy, with a focus on community-engaged and anti-racist pedagogies, and a Foundation Fellow of the Warwick Institute of Engagement, for whom he chairs the Learning Circle on Developing a Pedagogy of Public Engagement. He teaches Developing Community Leadership in a variety of community settings, and convenes an undergraduate interdisciplinary module, Community Engagement: Theory into Practice, developed with an Academic Fellowship from IATL.

Mark co-convenes the University's Anti-Racist Pedagogy Teaching Forum, is a facilitator of the Tackling Racial Inequality at Warwick Staff Development Programme (which was commended for the Warwick Award for Teaching Excellence in 2022), sits on the University's Race Equality Taskforce and University of Sanctuary working group, and occasionally still runs Clowning and Theatre Improvisation workshops.

Mark has a BA in Drama, and before joining Warwick in 2013 already had 25 years’ experience working in community settings as an artist, a social entrepreneur, and a community engagement consultant. From 2005 to 2010, he was sponsored by the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust as a 'Visionary for a Just and Peaceful World' to develop innovative and effective new models of intercultural community bridge-building.
