I have been a Skills for Life teacher for 7 years and a teacher trainer for 4 years. Much of my work before joining the Centre was in the Further Education sector and most recently, I worked in an integrated college for students with disabilities so I have lots of knoweldge and experience of the impact that certain physical and psychological conditions have on learning. In addition, I am familiar with enabling technology and accessibility issues. My areas of expertise are literacy and language, Pre-Entry Level, IT and disability / learning difficulties. At the Essential Skills Centre, I have delivered training on IT for literacy, language and numeracy tutors, as well as courses in basic skills awareness, differentiation in ESOL teaching, improving publicity and grammar for teachers. I have also delivered the national teacher qualifications related to literacy and ESOL, Core Curriculum, Pre-Entry Level Curriculum and Access for All. In addition, I have carried out training and consultancy work for Tribal CTAD, the Basic Skills Agency and NIACE and was a trainer for the recent NIACE Learning for Living pathfinder project. I have a Masters degree in Post-Compulsory Education, specialising in disability, and the Warwick University Diploma for Teacher Trainers.
