IfL CPD inclusivity conference
The Institute for Learning (IfL) worked in partnership with WMCETT to hold a one-day event to support practitioners across the West Midlands region. The event was provided free to IfL members, and had the theme of inclusion.
The event, in March 2012 at the Teaching block on the University of Warwick's Westwood campus, was attended by around 50 people who work in various sectors of teaching and training, including FE, work-based learning, the prison service and public services, adult and community learning, and a charity.
Dr Jean Kelly, IfL Director of Professional Development, gave an introductory speech entitled The Networked Professional.
Everyone then split up to take part in their choice of three out of four workshops: Anne Schofield, IfL West Midlands Regional Adviser (until end 2012) ran one on gaining A/QTLS and Sara Hattersley from the University of Warwick’s Essential Skills Resource Centre (ESRC) held one on inclusive technology for learning.
Elaine Goodall, also from the ESRC, led a workshop on supporting dyslexic learners, and Soroosh Yousefin from Hereward College ran practical strategies for Austistic Spectrum learners. There were also opportunities to discuss issues with local and national IfL representatives, and network with colleagues.
