Find out more about My Research

Education

PhD University of Warwick

I am currently in my third year of a PhD in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Warwick as part of a MOAC funded studentship. I am part of the Fox Group studying Broad-Spectrum Chemokine Inhibitors and Functionally Selective sstr2 Ligands. Areas of expertise I have developed during my research are:

  • Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (1H, 13C, COSY, HMQC and V.T. NMR)
  • Mass Spectroscopy
  • Chiral HPLC
  • Peptide Coupling
  • Communicating advanced scientific concepts and technical report writing
  • Project and time management

MSc University of Warwick

I received a distinction for my Masters course Instrumental and Analytical Methods in Biology and Environmental Chemistry from the University of Warwick. During my project I worked for Professor Peter Sadler, I worked with ruthenium and osmium containing anti-cancer complexes. It involved determining the log P and pKa's of these compounds for cell up take information.

  • Use of RC-HPLC
  • Shake Flask log P determining method
  • Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass-Spectrometry (ICP-MS)
  • Ultra-Violet-visible Spectroscopy (UV-vis)
  • Cell up-take studies and use of Biological Safety Cabinet
  • Using NMR to determine pKa

BSc University of Warwick

I received 2:1 Hons in BioMedical Chemistry from the University of Warwick.

I studied Organic, Inorganic, Electrochmistry, Surface and Colloid Chemistry, Polymers, Spectroscopy, Bioinorganic, Pharacology and Enzymology in the Department of Chemistry.

I studied Proteins, Genes and Genetics, Cell Signalling, Immunology, Protein Structure and Function, Infectious Disease and Health, Vaccination and Gene Therapy and Oncology in the Department of Biology.
