Rebekah Jones

I am now a final year PhD student on the Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research doctoral training programme, funded by the Medical Research Council. My PhD is being supervised by Dr Yin Chen (co-supervisors Prof Dave Scanlan and Dr Andre Pires da Silva), with the project focusing on lipid remodelling in bacteria, and the implications of this in antimicrobial resistance and host-pathogen interaction.

Academic Background

Sep 2015 - Nov 2016: MSc Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research, University of Warwick, Distinction

The MSc year in Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research (IBR) has sixth months of taught interdisciplinary modules with topics in chemistry, biology, microscopy, statistics and computer science. The course introduces a wide range of techniques in these areas, including their applications and recent developments. The taught section is then followed by two twelve-week mini-projects:

Spring: Viral determinants of HIV particle assembly with Emma Anderson

Summer: Probing mycobacterial-host interactions in bone cells with Meera Unnikrishnan

I received a "best project" award for my research with Emma Anderson, awarded at the MRC DTP annual conference in July 2017.

Sep 2012 - June 2015: BSc Biology, University of York, First Class Honours

Final year project: "Understanding the role of PACT in microRNA biogenesis"

BBSRC-funded summer project 2014: "The role of protein O-glycosylation in Mycobacterium smegmatis"
