Nastasia Baudin

Hi and Welcome to my ePortfolio!

My name is Nastasia, I am currently doing an industrial PhD in Environmental Sciences at the School of Life Sciences at the University of Warwick. My research project is about the degradation of crop protection products in Brazilian soils. It is funded by a CASE studentship from Syngenta and the Warwick Collaborative Postgraduate Research Scholarship.

I initially studied Biology, Geology and Ecology at the Pierre-and-Marie-Curie University in Paris. I then did a Master Degree in Environmental Sciences within the same university. I had the chance to follow a wide range of courses such as astronomy, evolution, hydrology, soil physics and mechanics, environmental law and economics, climatology, biogeochemistry, modelling... Thus enabling a multidisciplinary approach of the Environment.

During my master, I completed an internship with the CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) in Australia. I was part of the Ecosystem team in Adelaide and my project was on soil biodiversity and soil functions sustainability. The research was funded by the EIT (European Institute of Innovation and Technology).

Now I am looking at the environmental fate (i.e. degradation, adsorption and desorption) of several pesticides in Brazilian soils as part of my PhD. I am based in Syngenta Research and Development Centre at Jealott's Hill (Berkshire). Dr Samantha Marshall is supervising me in Syngenta. I am also part of the Soil Microbial Diversity and Functioning Group led by Pr Gary Bending, my academic supervisor at the University of Warwick.

I have a broad interest for bio-geo-chemical processes in soil. I want to understand the key drivers of these ineteractions along with their consequences using a multi-scale approach.

I also developped interests for sustainable management, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and entrepreneurship. I am part of the Climate-KIC, and in 2012 I joined the Climate-KIC Master programme. It focused on entrepreneurship related to climate change mitigation and adaptation in Europe. We had to turn a climate related idea into a business and pitch it for the final competition.

I am also invovled with the SCI (the Society of Chemical Industry) and the SETAC UK Branch.
