Dr Peter Michael Ward

Profile

Peter has just completed his studies for a PhD with Dr Irene Ng, Professor of Marketing & Service Systems and Director of IIPSI, and Dr Janet Godsell, Professor of Operations & Supply Chain Strategy.

The topic for Peter's PhD is "Towards a Process View of Adherence" He is taking a theory-based qualitative approach to defining adherence in order to achieve more effective methods of adherence improvement than the usual one of trying various interventions without considering their theoretical basis.

He is particularly interested in how his work can contribute to adherence in resource-poor areas, especially sub-Saharan Africa where he has worked on several healthcare and similar projects over the last few years including in Ghana (team 1), Tanzania (SMS for Life), DR Congo and Rwanda (iTSCi), and most recently Zambia (eZICS).

Peter believes that his approach to medicine adherence might be applicable other forms of consumption and even to behaviour, and so he is interested in doing further research into these alongside his research into medicine adherence.

He has presented posters at the 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 Postgraduate Poster Showcases. He has presented at a variety of conferences including CADE, the Service Systems Forum, Frontiers in Service and EurOMA, and has had papers accepted for the last four Global Health Supply Chain Summits. He secured funding from the Gates Foundation to write a positioning paper on consumer-focused supply chains, and from Warwick University to work both with Clinton Health Access Initiative on medicine appeal and also to represent the University at a conference in Cairo on tackling the Ebola outbreak.

Prior to his PhD Peter had over 3 decades of IT experience at IBM, where his most recent responsibilities included Technical Sales Executive for Middle East & Africa and program manager for several high-profile European technical client relationship programs. Peter is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of both the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the British Computer Society (BCS).

He is also a qualified life coach. He runs his own company, Sunrise Consulting (UK) Ltd, to provide personal performance coaching. He coaches Chinese students as an associate of Mandarin Consulting and is a senior associate consultant of BD Search, a niche search and selection agency focusing on CEO and Board-level appointments primarily in the public sector.

Peter has lectured at the University of Warwick for around 20 years on subjects as diverse as Service Science and the Challenges of Technology Selection, and has also delivered modules at the Greenwich School of Management. He co-developed WMG's original Service Design & Delivery module and is on the steering committee for the Service Management & Design MSc. At IBM he was Relationship Development Manager for the University of Warwick.
