Why come to our Summer School?

Our Experience Warwick Year 12 residential summer school aims to provide gifted students the chance to explore what it would be like to study at a University. Students will attend lectures and seminars on a number of subjects, as well as taking part in group research sessions. We will offer information and advice on how to apply to University, as well as try to break down any barriers that these students may be facing when thinking about applying. Students will get a taste of University life, with a good balance of academic content and social activities, taking advantage of the campus facilities.

Can I apply?

Places on the Summer School are reserved for students from non-selective state schools in the UK who are amongst the most academically able in their schools.

To be eligible students must meet the following academic criteria:

  • Have achieved 8 A*-C grades at GCSE (5 of which are grade B or above)

Students must also meet at least two of the criteria below:

  • Come from a home where neither parent attended university in the UK or abroad
  • Have been in receipt of free school meals, be in receipt of discretionary means tested payments or 16-19 bursary or be eligible for pupil premium
  • Live in a low participation neighbourhood as defined by home postcode *
  • Live or have lived in local authority care Have a disability
  • Be a member of one of the University of Warwick access programmes (Unitracks, Pathways to Law, Realising Opportunities)
  • Be a young carer

Places on the Experience Warwick Summer Schools are offered on a competitive basis and applicants should fulfil the key eligibility criteria as well as submit a personal statement explaining why they want to come on the Summer School and how it would benefit them.

Information for Teachers

Students apply online for a place at the Experience Warwick Year 12 Summer School. As part of the application process students are asked to privide a teacher contact. Once the student has submitted their application form, we will get in touch with the teacher contact to verify the information provided and to gain consent for the student to attend the summer school.
