English Language Information & Entry Requirements

The University requires evidence that your English Language capability is of a level that will enable you to succeed on your chosen course of postgraduate study. We therefore have English Language entry requirements based on the following minimum standards.

All tests must have been taken within two years of the start date of your course at Warwick. If you do not achieve one of the scores detailed below please inform Postgraduate Admissions by sending in your test certificate anyway. In such cases the University may require that you retake the test or require that you attend a pre-sessional English course provided by the University.

If you have been educated entirely in English for the duration of your degree and completed this qualification within the last 2 years, this may be sufficient to satisfy the University of your language skills. Please contact the Postgraduate Admissions Team if you are in any doubt about the suitability of your qualifications and experience.

All courses have been assigned to one of four English Language Test Bands (A to D). This table indicates the test band assigned to each department/course. A summary of required standards for each band is set out in the table below.

Band A courses Overall IELTS score of 6.5 and component scores detailed here.
Band B courses Overall IELTS score of 7.0 and component scores detailed here.
Band C courses Overall IELTS score of 7.5 and component scores detailed here.
Band D courses Overall IELTS score of 8.0 and component scores detailed here.

Alternatively if you have not taken and IELTS test, please click here to find other English language tests approved by the University.
