Research Degree Facilities

At Warwick, research degree students enjoy a number of exclusive facilities designed to enhance their academic and social experience. These include:

The Warwick Graduate School

Warwick was one of the first UK universities to establish a Graduate School, which has proved to be an extremely important resource for Warwick’s postgraduate students. Led by Professor Jackie Labbe, the Graduate School provides information to students on funding and scholarships; advises on University’s regulations; provides support to ensure progress and academic success; and works with the Centre for Student Careers and Skills to provide careers guidance and skills training appropriate to postgraduate students.

Wolfson

The Wolfson Research Exchange

A jewel in Warwick's crown, this is a dedicated study space for postgraduate researchers, centrally situated in the University Library. The Exchange provides a technology rich space that can be configured to facilitate collaborative and interdisciplinary research. There is a thriving postgraduate community that organises different events throughout the year, and the facility is staffed by a number of trained research advisors. Current students also regularly blog about their PhD experience, taking the wonderful research culture into the digital environment. You can also watch a video tour of the facilty.

The Postgraduate Hub (Coventry House)

Opened in February 2012 and refurbished with a £450,000 University investment, the Postgraduate Hub is located in the heart of central campus, and provides a multipurpose dedicated area for all postgraduate students at Warwick. There are a number of collaborative working areas (all bookable), meeting and social spaces, as well as a computer suite with its own printing facility. The space was created and developed as part of Warwick's continued investment in the postgraduate student experience.

The Teaching Grid

Unique to Warwick and opened in March 2008, the Teaching Grid service was established to provide accessible, collaborative support for all staff (including research degree students) involved in teaching or training practice at the University of Warwick. The service provides a collaborative space for the teaching community to meet and discuss ideas, run teaching-focused workshops and explore how they could make creative use of space and technology to support their teaching. There is also an Experimental Teaching Space, which gives staff and students the perfect opportunity to try out new and exciting ways of teaching.

The Grad Deck

Located near Lakeside and Heronbank accommodation (which houses most of Warwick's postgraduate students on campus), the Grad Deck is a social space specifically bookable for current research degree students. It serves as an informal public space for events, and it's location in one of the most beautiful parts of campus (particularly in the summer months), makes it an extremely popular venue for social activities.

IAS

The Institute for Advanced Study

The Warwick Institute of Advanced Study (IAS), established in 2007, is dedicated to enriching the University’s research environment. The main goals of the IAS are to enhance opportunities for international engagement with Warwick; to promote research and interdisciplinary collaborations across all Warwick faculties; to enrich the research environment for postgraduate students and early career scholars; and to increase public engagement with Warwick research nationally and internationally. The IAS supports a cluster of funding initiatives which are directed towards achieving these goals, including the prestigious Early Career Fellowship Scheme, available to Warwick doctoral students.
