The Language Centre has been part of the University of Warwick’s central academic services since 1965. The Centre supports the University’s commitment to the increased provision of foreign language learning opportunities for undergraduates, postgraduates and staff across the Faculties. The Language Centre is fully equipped with the latest technology, along with the multi-media open access suite with satellite TV and TV and computer based learning packages.
Example modules
Learning Japanese 1
The module aims to equip students with basic and practical communication skills to carry out everyday tasks. This module is offered to students with no prior knowledge of Japanese.
Learning German 2
The objectives of the module are to enable the students to develop competence in a range of language tasks performed in familiar work and social contexts, to extend skills in reading and listening comprehension and to consolidate and extend the knowledge and use of German grammar and syntax.
The Language Centre has three options for visiting students to take advantage of. Option one is for students to undertake modules for credits, usually
as part of an undergraduate course. Option two is for students to pay for a leisure language course in their own time outside of academic studies, whilst option three permits students to use the facilities within the Language Centre for independent learning. There is a wide range of languages available, including Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian and Spanish. More information on the different options available within the Language Centre can be found online.
The Language Centre is only able to offer Full Year option to Exchange and Erasmus students only.
