Study Abroad to attract foreign students to study here - Study and International Office

Study Abroad

Biology is a broad and fast-moving field. Advances in technology and monumental achievements such as the sequencing of the human genome have revolutionised our understanding of living systems over the past two decades and the pace of new discoveries continues to accelerate. Warwick is at the cutting edge of biology research and our courses benefit from this, giving students an up-to-date grasp of their subject and an appreciation of the applications and implications of modern biological knowledge. It is an exciting time to be studying Biology and our objective is to share that excitement with our students.

Example modules

Agents of Infectious Disease

This module integrates study of viruses, bacteria and other infectious agents with cross-cutting material on immunology and epidemiology to give a rounded introduction to issues and concepts in infection.

Viruses and Diseases

This module looks at the principles of virus-host interaction at the cell, organism and population levels, using examples including poliovirus.

The modules offered by Biological Sciences are predominantly molecular biology rather than whole organismal biology. We work closely with the visiting student in devising a lecture and laboratory programme that matches both the student’s ability and the needs of the home institution. First year modules are normally only taken by whole year students, however we are prepared to negotiate shorter versions of these modules for part year visitors.

For these modules, the student needs to have a suitable chemistry and biology background to high school level. For second year modules, a suitable level of knowledge is required.

Availability for Exchange Students within this Department for Autumn and Autumn & Spring terms varies for individual study modules.
