German and Business Studies
German and Business – natural partners
This long-established and successful degree combines studies in German language, culture and contemporary society with in-depth teaching in many varied areas of business practice. You will be based in the Department of German Studies, but half of your teaching is provided by Warwick Business School. Unlike in many universities, the two departments have strong curriculum links. You will spend one half of your year abroad studying at a university in a German-speaking country, and the other half on a work placement.
Alongside specialist business language classes, you will study in your first year the history and culture of German society since 1945. In your second year you will explore culture and society in the Weimar Republic and under National Socialism. In your final year you can choose from a range of options, and you will take Business and Society in Contemporary Germany, an interdisciplinary module co-taught by specialists from both departments.
In Business Studies, you can take many different pathways through your course including human resource management, accounting, finance, principles of organisational behaviour, production and operations management, industrial relations, corporate strategy, and auditing. Graduates from this degree have gone on to exciting careers in the private and public sectors.

Student Profile: Pavitar Khara, 2nd year, German and Business Studies

'German is an amazingly flexible course; you can combine it with all sorts of other interesting subjects including other languages, such as French and Italian, or other arts courses, such as History.
We are one of the smaller departments on the campus, which I find really useful as it means I get a lot of face-to-face time with my lecturers and tutors. The number of native speakers teaching in the Department certainly helped me to improve my oral skills in language classes. We also have our own careers adviser for Languages, which is very useful if you need to talk to someone about your options or just want to get an idea of what a certain profession is like'.
