ACCOMMODATION
Coming to university often means living away from home for the first time. You want a place that is clean, comfortable and safe, value for money, accessible, and with other students who share the same lifestyle as your own. This is what we aim to provide at Warwick, whether you live on or off campus.
LIVING ON CAMPUS
Warwick campus accommodation is second to none. Purpose-built residences provide around 6,000 rooms for both undergraduates and postgraduates. Some accommodation is ensuite; and some consists of study bedrooms with washbasins; there are traditional university halls, as well as flats, for between five and twelve students, with shared kitchens and bathrooms. All have network ports and high speed network/internet access, and all are furnished and maintained to a high standard. All have resident staff who make sure that everything runs smoothly and look after their students’ welfare.
GETTING A ROOM ON CAMPUS
New first year undergraduates are given priority for campus accommodation. Highest priority is given to first year undergraduates who have accepted an offer from Warwick as their first choice and apply for accommodation by 31 July of the year they’re due to start their course.
After the first year, students typically share a house or flat in nearby Leamington Spa or Coventry. Final year students can apply for campus accommodation via a ballot. If we are not able to offer you a room on campus, Warwick Accommodation (who look after the housing needs of all our students) will help you find a suitable place to live.
- You can find more information on the Warwick Accommodation website
EATING
All campus accommodation is self-catering, with well equipped kitchens and common rooms and is close to supermarkets to stock up with food. However, when you don’t feel like cooking, there are plenty of restaurants and food outlets on campus where you can eat well. Our ‘Eating at Warwick’ scheme offers discounts on food and groceries at outlets across campus.
CARS
All the academic and social buildings are within walking distance of our campus residences and the campus is well served by public transport for those living nearby. For this reason – and because we don’t want campus to end up simply as one huge car park – we ask students who are allocated campus accommodation not to bring their cars with them. (However,we have a limited number of parking spaces for resident students who need to have a car with them for medical, academic or compassionate reasons).
LIVING OFF CAMPUS
Second year andmost third year students live off campus. A favourite place to live is the Earlsdon district of Coventry – handy for the University, with a good variety of shops, bars and cafes. Another student favourite is nearby Leamington Spa, an elegant and historic English town with great student facilities and excellent shopping.
FINDING A ROOM OFF CAMPUS
Warwick Accommodation will help you find off-campus accommodation. The University manages around 450 houses (about 1700 rooms) in Coventry, Leamington and nearby Kenilworth. In this way, we ensure that all properties meet local authority accreditation standards relating to health and safety, furnishing and maintenance, and that the rents are suitable for student budgets.
You can rent property from Warwick Accommodation with a group of friends, or you can ask to be placed in a group of Warwick students. Warwick Accommodation does not charge any fees for helping you find a place to live, and does not charge retainer fees when you have accepted a property.
LOCAL TRANSPORT
All University properties are within easy reach of bus stops, and there are frequent buses connecting campus to Coventry, Kenilworth and Leamington Spa.You can buy bus passes on campus which are valid for the full term.During term-time the Students’ Union runs night buses from campus after late running events.
A SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY - STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES
Warwick is a close knit community so it's always easy to find someone to talk things over with. However, we recognise that there are times in everyone's university life when a little extra professional support may be helpful. So we have put in place a strong support network, to help you with an concerns - academic, personal, financial or practical.
People you can approach include the Director of Student Support, working through the student support team; the University Senior Tutor (a sympathetic person with whom you can discuss academic matters); personal tutors (in every academic department, for every student); resident tutors in the University halls of residence; the Counselling Service; the Students’ Union Advice Centre and, for financial advice, the Student Funding team.
We also have on campus a University Health Centre, with male and female doctors; a Chaplaincy where you will find our Anglican, Roman Catholic, Free Church, Muslim and Jewish Chaplains; an Islamic Prayer Centre, and our University nursery that looks after children between three months and five years.
STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
Warwick campus is accessible. Warwick’s Disability Service Team offers confidential individual advice, guidance and support and works closely with staff and students to create an accessible and inclusive teaching and learning environment. If you are thinking of applying to Warwick please contact Disability Services (email: disability at warwick dot ac dot uk) to discuss your individual requirements or to arrange a campus visit to have a look at the facilities.
A SUPPORTING COMMUNITY - WARWICK VOLUNTEERS
The university has a tradition of involvement in the local region, and current Warwick students carry on this tradition through their volunteering activities in Coventry, Kenilworth and Leamington Spa.
These take many different forms including: tutoring support and sports coaching in local schools, practical help with painting and decorating or gardening, befriending adults with disabilities, helping the elderly, supporting refugees or (for Warwick Law students) providing legal assistance and advice in cases of need.
If you decide to volunteer during your time at Warwick, you’ll receive lots of help, support and training from Warwick Volunteers, who co-ordinate our volunteering programme. You’ll find it an enormously worth while thing to do, and you’ll learn all sorts of skills that will stand you in good stead career-wise. Around 1800 Warwick students and staff volunteer over the year, putting in over 20,000 hours on community projects.

“Campus accommodation is a great way to settle into university life. Everything the University and the Students’ Union have to offer is right on your doorstep, so it’s easy to get involved with everything there is at Warwick. The communal atmosphere of the common rooms and kitchens makes it really easy for everyone to settle in, and the 24-hour supermarket just 5 minutes away is something you’ll love from your first night!”
Sav Perumal / First year / MMath
There was so much to be learnt, in a mutually beneficial way; both culturally, educationally and socially. Coming back home has shown me that my job at the school is certainly not over, indeed it has only just begun… The passion and dedication of the teachers at Madibane School is unbelievable and the development and growth I have seen in myself has certainly prompted me to want
to go back and make a real difference to a school which welcomed us with such open arms.”
