Possibly the only downside to university life is early lectures. Having accommodation on central campus makes it really easy not only to fall out of bed into a nine o’clock lecture, but to find your way home without too much trouble after a good night out! Being guaranteed on-campus accommodation as a first year student is a big weight off your shoulders when applying for a university place. There’s also the possibility of living back on campus for the final year of your degree. James Chalmers // Third year // Maths |

Most of our matches are played either on a Sunday or a Wednesday afternoon, and we train twice a week. Being part of such a brilliant club has improved my time management skills, and ensures I get the right mix of work and play. The people you meet through joining a club is another great reason to join. Although I find my course very interesting, I am certain that when I graduate some of my fondest memories will be of being involved with Lacrosse. Arriving in the UK I wanted to feel a sense of belonging in my home for the next three years. I was greeted by friendly faces from Warwick’s Orientation team and immediately felt at ease.I was soon at home in my on-campus accommodation and enjoying campus life. I became involved in Warwick Speakers and Warwick Volunteers and helped organise the Warwick Student Arts Festival and the annual Malaysian Night. Every day, I meet people from different countries and backgrounds, which is a learning experience in itself. I am never bored; there are numerous sports facilities, events organised by the Students’ Union and special events such as One World Week – 9 days of activities inspired by different regions of the world, aimed at greater international understanding and friendship. The more you put into something, the more you get out. At Warwick, there are countless opportunities to explore. I look forward to my final year with mixed feelings; excited to experience new adventures and sad as my time here comes to an end. Warwick is proving to be every bit the medical school I hoped it to be. It provides fantastic facilities to aid the intense learning, amazing extra curricular opportunities (I partake in American Football and Christian Medical Fellowship myself) and a spanking new University Teaching Hospital. How many other med schools can claim that?! So was it worth giving up the company BMW? Absolutely! Warwick provides a challenging but enjoyable course along with all the modern facilities we’ll need not only to excel, but to be the patient centred doctors that the public and NHS need. Hosting my own show on our student run radio station was a huge thrill. Becoming the Secretary of the Engineering Staff Student Liaison Committee and subsequently the Chair gave me the platform to make a difference. As a core member of the world's largest student-run event, One World Week I was able to bring out my leadership skills. Working as a Student Ambassador, Marketing Assistant and a Student Caller gave me the opportunity to gain some invaluable experience. In my final year, I was awarded the Warwick Advantage Gold Award for outstanding contribution to the University. Divya Surana // Third Year // Engineering Business Management |
When I was growing up I assumed I’d go to university. When I was asked ‘what do you want to be when you grow up?’ my answer was usually a job which required a degree. However, in my teens I developed a chronic illness which badly impacted upon my education. My confidence in my academic abilities was at rock bottom. I thought that all the jobs I’d wanted to do as a child were out of my reach. In my early 20s, back in good health, I started thinking about the future again and began to research what possibilities were open to me. I came across the 2+2 degree at Warwick, plucked up the courage to go to an open day and received lots of encouragement from the Centre for Lifelong Learning team. A lot of hard work and support later, I’ve just heard that I’ve achieved a first class honours degree and have been accepted onto a Masters course. I’ve gone from thinking I’d never make it to university to being a perpetual student! Naomi Alsop // BA Hons Social Studies |

Giving students a source of extra income during their time at University, Unitemps offers many varied work opportunities with good rates of pay. These opportunities enable you to gain valuable work experience and develop invaluable transferable skills that can be used post graduating and also give you the chance to meet other students who could turn into good friends! During my time working through Unitemps I have met many people and been able to finance myself through University whilst still meeting my academic commitments. Andrew Isaacs // Third Year // Accounting & Finance, Warwick Business School |
Living on campus at Warwick is certainly a unique experience. Being where everything you need is within 5 or 10 minutes’ walk is really convenient, and makes studying here all the more manageable. No matter where on campus you end up living, there is always a friendly environment and people you’ll get on with.
At our Fresher’s Fayre, during the first week of University, the Lacrosse Club caught my eye. Even though I’d never played the game before, I went along to the taster session, and haven’t looked back!
I came to Warwick Med School after 6 years of anticipation, having heard of the new medicine course shortly after embarking on my BSc in 1999. Since graduating in 2003, I worked in the pharmaceutical field as a rep for two and a half years, and although enjoyable, I always knew that my dream was to be a doctor. However, my time in the industry has provided me with a fantastic springboard to medicine and has complemented my other medical work experience well.
The best part about studying at Warwick is that students are encouraged to become all-rounders. My main aim at Warwick was to make the most of my 3 years. That enabled me to earn some money through part time work, make new friends, become more confident, enhance my CV and ultimately secure a job with a top company!
